Educational Philosophy (Pedagogy)

King's Christian Academy will provide a Classical Christian education (CCE). This is a term unfamiliar to most of us in Saskatchewan, but it's not as scary as it sounds. And it's certainly not boring! It's innovative, while also being grounded in much older ideas about what education truly is—and should be.

CCE excites us. We believe it is what is needed at this time in history, and what is best for our students. It is an education geared toward wisdom, not merely intelligence, one that will equip students with the discernment they'll need to navigate a complex future, full of artificial intelligence and misinformation.

Because it differs so dramatically from our current system, and what we're used to, it takes a little bit of time to understand. So please, grab a coffee and find a comfortable chair—then spend some time going through the links below. They'll provide you with a ton of information and, most importantly, they'll get you excited, too.

Lastly, know that every school does CCE differently. It is adaptable to the environment, and we know that we have a unique environment in our corner of southwest Saskatchewan. A Classical school here is not going to look the same as it does in urban America. So, don't panic if you see uniforms and think "uniformity." We will make this our own.

What is Classical Christian Education?

Classical Christian Education (CCE) is a time-tested educational system which establishes a biblical worldview (called Paideia), cultivates the seven Christian virtues, trains students in reasoning through Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric, and engages children in “the great conversation” through the historical great books.

What do we mean by
“Classical Christian” school?

Many educators view school as a mechanism that delivers content using an educational method.

This results in the mistaken belief that Classical Christian Education (CCE) simply means that the content is classical and the methodology is more traditional.

CCE has deep footings that are distinct from modern schools, and even different from liberal arts or classical schools founded after the Enlightenment. But there is no single recipe or formula for Classical Christian education.

What is Paideia?

"Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger,

but bring them up in the [paideia] of the Lord." -Eph. 6:4

Christians today talk about worldview. But they often fail to understand the deeper concept of paideia–the term actually used in the Bible.

Key Reading:
The Lost Tools of Learning

Perhaps the most foundational writing of Classical Christian Education is a paper read at Oxford in 1947 by Dorothy L. Sayers. This is a good way to catch the vision. Download a PDF file below, or download a 1 hour audiobook for a few dollars.
